Metaprompt
Completed by opening the official lab
Why it matters
A generated template is a first draft, not a reviewed design. Reading one critically trains the judgment that separates standing instructions from the request content they wrap.
What to practise
Enter a task and, optionally, all-caps variable names such as CUSTOMER_EMAIL. The metaprompt returns an <Inputs> block, its planning in <Instructions Structure>, and the template in <Instructions> with {$NAME} variables, which the notebook extracts. Fill VARIABLE_VALUES and run the template on the faster test model; the notebook defaults to earlier models, Claude Sonnet 4.6 to write and Claude Haiku 4.5 to test. It steers the response from the user turn because current models reject assistant prefill, and checks stop_reason for max_tokens. The output is a single-turn template.
How it fits
Check each generated variable against 2.2.2: its source, its meaning, and what happens when it is missing. The whole template arrives as one user message; decide what belongs in system as 2.2.1 separates it. Before it ships, it needs the regression cases of 2.2.5.
